Here is a brief video collage I put together with the top 5 (I like to end it with Charlie). Lol.
I admit Gangham Style was a hit with a catchy tune that caught everyones attention. But I honestly didn’t expect Gentlemen to be No.6 on the list. Till this day I have the charlie bit my finger video on my phone and I still crack up every single time. Good times! I’m glad Eminem is still in the top 10, big fan of him.
It’s so funny seeing Psy twice on this list, because I was a big fan of him before he was known worldwide. It sounds so hipsterish to say this, but I watched Gangnam Style the morning it came out. I loved it right away, but had no idea it would turn out to be this huge phenomenon.
I had no idea Michel Teló had this many views! Amazing how far an artist can go with a extremely catchy tune.
I used to listen to Jennifer Lopez’s music quite often, which it was probably about 8 years ago when her first album become the most popular albums to date. I do listen to R&B once in a while, which Jennifer Lopez often sings R&B songs, plus I have often heard hers songs played on the radio station. I haven’t heard any other artists, which Eminem is probably the second artist I have heard when I was younger. It’s funny that I have changed my taste of music every year, which I tend to seem to pick up my favorite genre according to what I have listened on a daily basis.
Post like this tend to create a feedback loop for those videos, people see the list and if they don’t the song or feature, go to see it…making it popular and thus appearing and more “top 10 lists”. That’s not a complaint; its just the way we are. People like these kinds of lists, they can help make stuff popular or they can help people discover new music etc.
Excuse me while I go listen to some of those songs 🙂
Don’t understand why the number two most viewed is Justin Bieber’s song, but oh well. He has to be somewhere screwing something up, right? LOL. Poor kid.. It must be hard knowing that so many people hate him. A lot of these other songs deserve those top spots. I’ve probably seen gangnam style myself about 10 times. I couldn’t tell you why… There’s just something about it that makes me want to watch it! It could possibly be the super pretty South Korean girls, because honestly I’ve never seen such pretty looking asian people! If you can call them Asian, hopefully that doesn’t offend anyone, and I apologize if it does. Awesome list, I love seeing posts like this. It’s cool to know this kind of stuff without having to look to hard. It’s entertaining!
You can easily buy clicks today. If I remember correctly, recently youtube removed a lot of views on a lot of videos because they proved they were from click farms and so on. I think YouTube and generally social media need to find a way to combat click farms. Because they are not bringing any good to anyone.
I remember when Evolution of dance was number one! Haha I don’t like that almost no original videos are in the top 10 anymore. It’s not very fair when companies like Vevo just use these videos with hundreds of millions of views to advertise and make money! I still prefer the top 10 videos on Youtube back from around 2008;)
none of the old youtube gem apart from Charlie bit my finger are here now. what a tragedy. all others are music videos, pop music as well. expect number 10 maybe, have to watch what it is.
thank you
I had not heard of that Charlie Bit My Finger video, and after watching it I know why…
It would be interesting if you found out and reported how much $$ these videos have made the owners?
I have to admit that I watched everyone of those videos except Bieber. I laugh every time I watch Charlie bite his finger. The way Charlie just giggles about it is hilarious. On the floor is one of my favorite songs. I usually play it while I’m cleaning the house. It’s interesting to see that the same things I enjoy are enjoyed by so many other people.
I can completely understand Gangnam Style being number uno. It has an amazing catchy quality to it. I have played the song to a few people who don’t listen to pop music or anything modern, but they instantly like it. Gentleman was just okay. J-lo’s song has to thank the lambada sample used in it for its popularity. You would think that a world cup sog would automatically be poular, but the song, sung by Shakira, has a really pleasant chorus. LMFAO was a real feel good dance track.
Gangnam style is not surprising. That thing was just a hit everywhere in the world. What I do not understand is how Bieber got that high on the list. I would say he was mostly just a US hit, not worldwide.
I’m surprised that god awful “What Does the Fox Say?” video isn’t on here, lol.
I never found the Charlie Bit My Finger video to be funny, really. I do like most of the artists that are on this list, especially Eminem. I’m also surprised that Psy olds two spots on this list, but good for him. I wonder what he’s up to, actually. I haven’t heard anything of him since 2013..
I think it first of all was gained popularity in the second health of the year and secondly it didn’t have the impact Psy did. I like Psy’s impact to that of Crazy Frog which kind of started all these crazy pop 1hit wonder songs. I would say none of these are a surprise, although the videos from big youtubers like Pewdiepie must not be far behind.
I was not expecting Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie” to be up there. Considering he has better produced songs such as Lose Yourself or Mockingbird. However, YouTube does create a buzz around a lot of new music. Was not surprised at Gangnam Style though.
Didn’t expect Psy to appear twice on the list. I don’t even remember seeing “Gentleman,” nor “Charlie Bit My Finger Again.” Those are lots of views though, really shows how humor and music can bring so many cultures together.
It’s amazing how Psy – Gangham style has almost 2 billion views. What dissapoinst me though, is that 9/10 of those videos are just songs. I mean yes, songs are one of the most popular things out there to date, but I’d really like to see something different between those videos.
